Well hello from afar & happy belated Australia day to you all.
So this week was jam packed with classes, fun! Our
ridiculously long days were filled with revision and practical sessions on
cannulation, blood samples and catheterization! My highlights for class this
week were definitely the joint effort from Lindsay and myself breaking the
electronic bed during a demonstration (literally snapping a piece off) and
learning that a fellow classmates dog is believed to be a Mexican immigrant and
generally speaking, doesn’t like flat nosed dogs.
Apart from class throughout the week project not
get fat was in full swing with Lindsay and myself awaking extra early every
morning for our stair runs, and we are improving YAY! Along with this the bike
riding is really coming along look out tour de France. As promised here is the
only photo I have managed to get of Millicent, please note she is in the back
(the black beauty). In front we have Theodore (Lindsay’s bike), Millicent’s
lover.
FRIDAY
It was Friday night and the eve of Australia day so
all of us Aussie girls decided we would celebrate and head to the local club,
Babel, with all of the other exchange students for an event called Riot! We
decked ourselves and of course the other exchange students with Aussie flag
tattoos and set off on our bicycles to the club. We arrive and are extremely
excited for our first ‘town’ experience in Sweden.
First stop the bar for the world’s worst shot then
it was to the dance floor, where the dj found it appropriate to mix songs using
iTunes fade. So far the night wasn’t going as well as planned but hey we would
soon make our own fun! Finding a little bit of Australia wherever we went, in
the photo below you will see a kangaroo in the background.
It soon became apparent that stroking other
patron’s jumpers (Emily) was not appropriate and that the Swedes enjoy
whispering complete mumbo jumbo in your ears. Along with this Lindsay and I
were determined to get a shout out for all the Australians in the club.
Therefore we thought it would be a great idea to get on the stage, just that
little bit closer to the microphones in hope of one little ‘Aussie aussie
aussie’, but no, massive fail, it was back on the floor for us to join the rest
of our bopping friends.
Our little dancing feet were tired so Lindsay and myself retired to a little
hidey hole which we found behind a curtain, little did we know we would soon be
surprising the hell out of a couple when they got cozy in front of us not
knowing we were perched up behind the curtain (kind of a, ‘you had to be there
moment’).
Other hilarious moments captured on camera:
The random guy holding the bottle noticed the Aussie flags on our faces and came up to us first words, 'straight to the pool room'.
Classic Holly photo bomb moment.
'I whip my hair back and forth'
A do with pride.
Tragic.
I will find abnormally large items and pose with them.
Token club/mirror shot.
We soon left Babel and
were on our way home to cook a rather large batch of nachos.
SATURDAY
An early morning Willy’s trip was required today
for toilet paper! I knew what I wanted and still managed to come out with the
wrong thing. Instead of toilet roll I am now the owner of multiple rolls of
hand towel, good Holly.
After Willy’s it was time to get my tourist on.
Lindsay, Emily and myself were off to explore Copenhagen for the day. After successfully making it to the
Copenhagen airport via train it was time to find and hop aboard the city rail.
Looking like complete lost tourists a dane with perfect teeth pointed us in the
right direction and then sat next to us the entire duration of the trip telling
us where to go, what to do and what to see.
We arrive at our destination and boom are instantly
hit with the freezing cold wind. Seriously if you are planning a trip to
Denmark in winter, pack your winter woolies. We begin to walk down the main
shopping street and soon retire for lunch just to escape the cold weather. We
enter an old pub and eat the most amazing burgers ever! With full bellies we
are back on our way to visit Mary.
Copenhagen is such a beautiful city everywhere you
look there is beautiful big old buildings, quaint little streets and funky
little cafes. Everyone is so friendly and there is just a marvelous vibe in the
streets.
However we did wonder when we saw this sign?
Really? Sultan’s palace? Down a little side street! Nej Nej Flickvan (translation: no no girlfrannnnd)
Whilst roaming I even managed to get a sneaky shot
in front of the royal theatre (the most amazing building).
We finally arrive at Mary’s house, so excited to be
babysitting the kids on Australia day (so lucky she asked I guess)! I knock..
But no reply, rude!
We thought we would wait around for a little
longer, see if she would return my phone calls etc whilst waiting we were
lucky enough to see the changing of the guards. This involved lots of marching
and obeying commands I of course joined in:
After leaving the church we really were on our way
home. Back to the train station for 2 trains and a bike ride home. Once we
arrived home it was a matter of having an incredibly long shower to defrost and
then recapping triple j’s hottest 100 whilst eating a sausage in bread. You
know the traditional thing.
SUNDAY
Today was sacred Sunday the designated day of the
week where Lindsay and I do not leave the building. Sacred Sunday is a day
specifically for sleeping in, lounging about all morning, cleaning, washing and
Harry Potter. For those of you that care we are up to the 6th movie
in our Harry Potter marathon and oh my goodness I cannot believe Dumbledore dies!
Anyways that is all for tonight and my bed is
calling my name.
So goodnight one and all, from Sweden with love,
Holly xoxoxox
PS.
Send me a letter or a photo; my postbox and walls
are super lonely.
